Welcome to Relationship Solutions Center’s blog.  I am excited to start this new way to communicate with you and share information.  For those of you on my mailing list, you recently received the newsletter on Understanding Anxiety.  This past week (on March 12th) I was also fortunate enough to attend a workshop on treating anxiety.

I was reminded of the importance of alternating active and passive strategies to manage anxiety.  Active strategies can involve swimming, walking, or gardening.  Some examples of passive strategies include breathing exercises, reading, or watching the flames in a fireplace or candles burning.  I was also excited to learn some new strategies that will help all of you to manage and overcome your anxiety.  I have taught many people how to use deep breathing and now how a few other breathing strategies to share. For example, chose a number (typically 3, 4, or 5) and slowly count to that number while inhaling.  You then repeat the process by slowly counting to the same number while you exhale.  Feel free to ask me about other breathing strategies and/or stress management techniques next time we meet!
